Ginkgo biloba
extract is derived from the dried leaves of ginkgo biloba
(maiden tree). The leaf contains amino acids, flavonoids
and terpenoids including bilobalide and ginkgolides
A, B, C, J and M.
Research
shows that Ginkgo biloba leaves extract may prevent
age-related memory loss by enhancing blood circulation
especially in the brain region, as well as improve concentration,
alertness and neural transmission in the brain, in treatment
of senile dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Also, this
herb has been proved to be effective in promoting better
sleeping pattern.
However,
the main interest in Ginkgo biloba has focused in its
use in cerebral insufficiency and it is licensed for
this indication in Germany. Over 40 controlled trials
have been published. Almost all trials showed positive
effects of Ginkgo compared with placebo in cerebral
insufficiency, which may include symptoms such as difficulty
in concentration, confusion, absent mindedness, lack
of energy, reduced physical performance, tiredness,
depressed mood, anxiety, tinnitus etc.
This
product contains 24% ginkgo flavone glycosides and 6%
terpene lactones, derived from 3000mg of quality ginkgo
leaves or 60mg pure ginkgo extract, adjusted to standardized
concentration 50:1. They are all natural and pure, with
no added artificial ingredients.
Ginkgo
biloba should not be used for the treatment of disease
without medical supervision. It is contra-indicated
in hypotension and pregnancy.
